excellent !
Hi everyone, today two years ago, the last beta version of Listary 6.0.5.16 was published. And even if the developer writes to somebody every other months that the project is not abandoned - it is exactly this.
Merriam-Websters first definition of abandoned is âleft without needed protection, care, or supportâ. This project needs support and it does not get it. So, by definition it is abandoned and saying otherwise does not change that fact.
Maybe the developer will get back to this project and then it will not be abandoned anymore. But until then, it is abandoned. Plain and simple.
Thanks for finding Fluent Search and getting in contact with the developer. The project sounds promising and I will test it right away.
Listary has been abandoned until the author decides to update Listary.
Just replying âListary is not abandonedâ doesnât make it an alive application.
What makes this project alive? Just by saying itâs alive doesnât make it alive!
He never notified the users here (or email) that the project is âon holdâ thatâs the bare minimum for communicating the status of your application.
Stop defending him by constantly replying with a message quote: âListary is not abandonedâ
At the end it all comes down to income. I bet those other projects have better prospects when it comes to income. Or do you think the author would abandon Listary which is (was) a well respected application and well supported for other projects with a low likelihood of better income? And thatâs all fine and understandable!
I understand when you go for better options, but at least do one of this:
Communicate personally through the discussion forum in a separate thread that Listary development will be suspended for an uncertain period. (Even with an email with a link to the discusion board).
Or go the other route, change the payment from one time to a yearly or major upgrade (v1.0, V2.0âŚ) model. The author of freefilesync did something similar, itâs not perfect but far better then dropping the whole application mid-beta and letting your users having to contact you and then having to find out that the project has been âput on holdâ (abandoned)
OR make it opensource
He is now dis-respecting his current user-base by not showing any sign of life regarding Listary and on top of that having 2 sales without even responding in those sales (last post on the bitsdujour page: Jul 14 2019 at 9:33am). In his previous sale I couldnât even comment. I attempted to ask questions. After mailing bitsdujour about this, I was informed that the author decided not allow posts. This last sale he did allow posts but no response from him.
He could have avoided so much negativity by just informing the users.
(A simple response here and an email would go a long way.).
We are now reaching the 6th month 2021⌠let that sink in. How long are you going to keep quoting âListary is not abandonedâ without any sign of an update?
very agree with u
u can go on discord for FS fluent search, since i start to use, a lot of improvements have been done
the next major release 1.0.xx will bring a lot of feature of listary
For @kwanice, @listary_sev and @horst about the portable version
The latest stable version of Listary is also available as portable version and can be found here,
and I also found the portable version of the latest beta version, here you can download it.
Without the Listary service you need admin rights while using the listary searches.
That makes the portable version almost useless.
Okay tbh, I think fluent search has some interesting features but I find it a tad too complicated. In both appearance and setup. I just want to be able to press ALT + SPACE and have a simple search box for whatever I need. Tag on the search box attached to windows explorer dialog and Iâm sold. The many extra options like searching in processes and whatnot are just too much for me.
The CTRL+M shortcut that assigns letters to everything on your screen is a genius idea. But CTRL+M is a pretty common keyboard shortcut. And thatâs one of my gripes with Fluent. Youâre important as a search tool. Just not important enough to replace the rest of my workflow and keyboard shortcuts.
I love Listary because it is simple to set up and gets out of the way until I need it.
in few month, everything will be improved a lot i guess.
Now u can use only ALT+ space ( or other shortcut u want) to search for everything, and even in file dialog box.
I test on word, explorer etcâŚits works fine.
For the CTRL+M, you can set any shortcut u want ! this feature is very nice.
of course FS is very different of listary, more powerful, u can disable all the things u dont need in FS
Listary was portable yes, but you will need admin rights.
Itâs still portable in terms of settings and I think it needs admin rights because it access MFT table for the search.
It saddens me to say this, but I donât believe one word of that email from Channing. Either itâs a scam user or heâs lying. Iâve been hearing for YEARS about how Listary is going to be improved and nothing ever surfaced. Itâs a sad reality that Listary is still the best of the lot, but itâs dying a slow death.
We need a legit developer to create an Alfred or Listary like alternative for the PC. Iâve tried at least 20 and none of them do what listary did and portably.
I hope someone finally steps up to the plate soon open source or for pay so I can finally dump listary.
honestly u should try again fluent search, lot of improvement nowâŚ
we can search for folder or files in dialog box âsave asâ or âopenâ
many the feature of listary are already implemented, and itâs still improving week after week.
for now, its not as fast and easy to use than listary, but it will be, for sure! and with a loooooot more of feature!
rip listary
Niceeee! Iâll keep watching Fluent
To everyone watching this thread, here is your new Listary.
Flow Launcher has replaced Wox (wox abandoned development for Flow Launcher). The app is VERY polished and about the same weight (200MB RAM as Listary. It even done some stuff better than Listary. Itâs free, on github, active development, has discord server, and completely portable with 1 click option!
Finally, a viable replacement.
Goodbye @Channing @ChanningTestAccount Thank you for providing Listary 5 all these years. I benefited tremendously from your talent. I wish you had open sourced the Listary 6 beta so others could pick up your progress.
obviously for u, you wanted a portable versionâŚ
i will try it, but honeslty i use FS for few weeks now, and its great now.
u should have a try
wow i just try itâŚ
definitely, i will keep Fluent Search
FS is much more powerful, u have all the feature of listary!
with this flow launcher, how can u make a search on a file dialog box? like the âopenâ file, or âsave asâ ? you cant i guess.
but the interface is little more polish,
i think FS is for now, for power user, but slowly it will be more easy to use
by the way thanks for ur suggestion
But , Fluent search power ;), i stop using listary.
and the dev of FS tell me that, for Fluent search, u can just copy the folder, no other installation needed to be used.
I am encouraged that dev of FS is working on portable version. I am going to give it an honest try and report my feedback to dev & chat room.
For now Flow Launcher will remain standard launcher until I can get FS up and running to spec.
