This is about programs that I have installed for a long time, like Windows Terminal. Every now and then, Listary doesn’t run them, but the Windows Start Menu does.
I then have to exit and restart Listary, after which it runs that program again.
Could this be that there is a change in the Start Menu shortcut that Listary doesn’t pick up? Is there a way to fix this?
Thanks. When you’re unable to open Windows Terminal or other long-installed programs, are you still able to open newly installed programs before exiting and restarting Listary?
It affects programs that I had already installed, mostly for a long time, but never all of them. It only affects one (that I notice), or maybe multiple but very few. When this happens, the other programs (and non-program targets like files and folders) open normally from the Listary launcher.
I can’t say for sure that this is valid for all cases, but the last few instances I remember were with programs I installed through the Windows Store (Slack, Windows Terminal). This is what triggered my suspicion that this could be related to auto-updates.
It’s possible because Listary caches the program list from the Windows Store to enable searching for programs installed through the Windows Store. When these programs auto-update, Listary might not sync the updates, which could cause them to fail to open. I’ve noted this issue and will keep an eye on it for future updates.
I just found the “rebuild index” command (Options > Commands > rebuild). It sounds like it should fix this problem.
I just had this problem with an app that I installed from the Microsoft Store: the Listary launcher didn’t launch it, but I could launch it from the Windows Start menu. So I ran the index rebuild. I saw the two notifications (start and end of the index rebuild). After this, Listary still didn’t launch the program. However, after exiting and restarting Listary, it did launch the program.
It seems that there is something else broken. Can you explain why rebuilding the index doesn’t fix it, but restarting Listary does? Is there a shortcut from within Listary with which I can restart Listary (keyboard only – without going through the awkward sequence of right-click on tray icon, select Exit, open Windows Start, run Listary)?
It seems similar to what I mentioned before. When these programs auto-update, Listary might not sync the updates, which could cause them to fail to open. After the auto-update is completed in the Microsoft Store, you should be able to search and open them normally. This issue is not directly related to the rebuild index function.
