Here’s another idea (from another DOpus user): a per-application configurable override to the global “Show Listary toolbar” hotkey. That way DOpus users could assign the invocation key to whatever they would like (and that would not conflict to the DOpus special keys that user may have customized). Only the override should allow single-key invocation key (unlike the global config which requires Ctrl/Shift/Alt/Win combo).
Thanks for the suggestion. In fact you’ll find that you use Listary more often than those special chars in DOpus. So better add a hotkey or something similar for DOpus special chars instead of Listary.
I had to disable Listary for DOpus (Win7, 64-bit) because typing into a folder of 1,200 PDF files just took too long (longer than I had the patience to wait) to find the file I was looking for, while DOpus’s Find jumps to it immediately.
On the other hand using Listary outside of DOpus finds the same file pretty quickly. So I’m wondering, why it’s so slow in the DOpus lister itself and whether anything could be done about it?
(I’m using the latest betas for both.)
I’m currently using / instead of > in Listary for the global search to avoid the conflict with commands. It works better with the fuzzy navigation parsing metaphor in my head thinking of “i’m searching for something including the root of the file system.” But I’d like to be able to have the > notation pass through to the CLI of Opus. I have a feeling I could configure that already (though I’m waiting for a bit more stability in 4.0 to plunk down for Pro). I’ll probably end up using my remapped Caps Lock Key as the activator.
the issue i’m having unfortunately is with the Windows file and folder dialogs… Listary is there at the bottom of the dialog but not focused with the latest beta, and using the mouse is the only way to activate it. Using the hotkey fails because it just opens up another listary bar. It would be great if the hotkey would refocus whichever bar is associated with the window so I don’t end up opening my selected file in Opus instead of choosing it in my dialog Personally I’d use a modifier or another shortcut key if I actually wanted to do a second action while the first was still pending, and have the Win+S act as a tab-like toggle… Once focuses the bar, just in case it isn’t already, two taps switches to the menu, third switches back to whatever was focused in the application.
Small things really… I’m very impressed so far, especially with the speed of the filtering.
I assume the optimization of the algorithm still matters on an SSD even when they recommend you turn Windows’ version off.
That’s because the communication between Listary and Directory Opus is slow, and I’m afraid nothing can be done at the moment.
A small tip: you don’t need to wait for Listary to show results, just keep typing. In my test with a folder containing 3000 files, Listary will catch up with you after 3 or 4 letters.

A new beta will be available within a few days to resolve this issue.

It seems that you press the Win+S hotkey too long. If you press Win+S once, Listary should activate the toolbar attached to the file dialog. But if you press it twice, Listary will open a new toolbar in global scope. And if you press Win+S again, Listary will go back to the file dialog toolbar. Listary does work in a tab-like way you mentioned below

If you press Win+S to activate a file dialog Listary toolbar as mentioned above, pressing ESC will navigate you back to whatever was focused before.
